Famous First Words
Mark Z. Danielewski, House of Leaves. 2000.
One of my all time, top five, favorite books. Eight years before I knew what a TARDIS was, I discovered something bigger on the inside that was equally fascinating and a great deal more frightening. The house, the obsessions, the faux-academia, the movie that doesn’t exist, the monster that might, the images, the typography and -oh!- the design of it all; that’s what made me like it. That they all form a thrilling, engaging page-turning novel makes me love it.
